TOOTHPICK TIP: If you have problems with your toothpicks burning, we recommend soaking them in water for at least 20 minutes before beginning this recipe.

Chop the pecans and toast them in a skillet on your stovetop, over medium heat.  This will only take a few minutes.  Watch them closely, stir as needed, and be ready to remove them right away, before they burn.

Preheat the broiler.  Stuff fig halves with a small scoop of the chèvre and then top the cheese with toasted pecan bits.

Wrap each stuffed fig with a thin-sliced piece of bacon and secure each one with a toothpick.

Place the stuffed, wrapped figs on a baking sheet with at least and inch between each.  Broil the figs for 4-7 minutes or until the bacon is beginning to crisp and the chevre is bubbly.  Remove toothpicks and serve immediately.

NO NUTS? This recipe is really terrific even without the toasted pecans, so if you have people who are allergic to nuts, omit those pecans!  The fig, chèvre, and bacon still bring tons of flavor.
